Comments: When one Colonel George Wightman of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, visited the British warships off Newport, contravening the local regulations against giving information to them, the local militia took a small sloop of his into custody, then laying in Thomas Allen's Cove, on 26 February 1776. The sloop was sent to East Greenwich for safekeeping.
