Comments: The 100-ton schooner Patroclus (William Gill) was captured by Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Warren (Commander John Coulson) on 1 December 1776. The schooner was bound from Dominica, British West Indies to Quebec, Quebec. She was brought in to Cape Ann. The owners of the privateer denied the master and crew their private interest, then promised restitution, thus leading the prisoners to miss a cartel ship. At least one member of the Patroclus’s crew was ordered exchanged on 17 January 1777, as a result of this petition. The schooner was libeled on 9 January 1777, with trial set for 28 January.
