Comments: British Army Transport Ship Content (John Taylor) was a veteran of the Charleston Expedition in the spring and summer of 1776. The 400-ton ship was captured by Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Warren (Commander Henry Thorndike) in December 1776. She was brought in to Beverly, where she was libeled on 9 January 1777 and tried on 28 January. On 23 January Taylor, on behalf of himself and others of his crew, signed a petition to the Massachusetts Council for permission to depart for Ireland. Content was purchased by the Massachusetts Board of War for £2105.14.8. The Board of War planned to use her as a trading vessel under the name Union.
