Comments: Sloop Polly and Ann (Hains) was bound from New York to Boston with a cargo of passengers and provisions, at least some of which were for the British forces at Boston. The sloop sailed from New York on 20 December 1775, but went aground at Manasquan Beach on the New Jersey shore on 23 December during bad weather. Despite efforts by the master and crew to conceal the destination of the Polly and Ann, the vessel and cargo were taken into custody. The passengers were rounded up and sent back to New York on 11 January 1776.
