Comments: Sloop Industry (Samuel Lane), 40 tons, was captured at some point prior to 26 February 1776, when she was libeled for trial on 21 March 1776. She was not captured by one of the Continental Army schooners. [NDAR, IV, 81-82 and 82 note, 1174-1176] She was probably one of the unknown sloops captured in December 1775 by unknown privateers and carried into Massachusetts ports:

(1) On 2 December an unknown privateer was reported to have captured an unknown 60-ton sloop, with an unmentioned master, bound to Boston from Hakifax with wood and cattle, a crew of seven men, and armed with four swivels. She was taken into Beverly. [NDAR, II, 1267-1268; NDAR, III, 47-48, 96, 126] [Sloop Success (Hitch) ? Faibisy, A Compilation of Nova Scotia Vessels . . ., in NDAR, X, 1201-1210

(2) Before 5 December an unknown vessel was captured by an unknown privateer, bound from St. Johns, Newfoundland to Boston with a cargo of fish. She was sent into Plymouth. [NDAR, II, 1286 and note; NDAR, III, 47-48, 126]

(3) Before 5 December an unknown vessel was captured by an unknown privateer, bound from Quebec, Quebec to Boston with a cargo of dry goods. She was sent into Plymouth. [NDAR, II, 1286 and note; NDAR, III, 47-48, 126]

(4) About 27 December an unknown sloop was captured off Plymouth by an unknown privateer (but possibly the Massachusetts Privateer Sloop Yankee (Commander Corban Barnes). She was from New York to Boston with fresh provisions and was sent into Plymouth. [NDAR, III, 291, 602-603]
