Comments: Connecticut Privateer Sloop Hawk (Commander Gideon Olmstead) was at sea in April 1780. In the night of 16 April 1780 he was off the south side of Long Island, near Fire Island Inlet. A strange sloop was seen and hailed, but no answer was received. Olmstead manned his boat and sent her over to the sloop, which was captured. She mounted some carriage guns and some swivels and was commanded by one Robinson. No papers were found.
