Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Vulture was commissioned on 29 January 1782 under Commander Abraham Tappan of Newburyport, Massachusetts. She is listed as having four guns and a crew of twelve men. Vulture was bonded for $20,000 by Tappan and the two owners.1 There are some reports that Tappan “died at sea” in 1782.2
