Pennsylvania Privateer Brigantine Virginia was commissioned on 18 June 1781 under Commander Peter Hodgkinson, possibly from Philadelphia. Edmund Wingate of Philadelphia served aboard as First Mate. She is listed as having four guns and a crew of thirteen men. Virginia was bonded for $20,000 by Inglis and Ord.1
About March 1782 the Virginia was captured by the British vessel New Adventure.2 Virginia was taken into New York, New York and tried and condemned there, being noted as an American merchant vessel.3
