Massachusetts Privateer Sloop Reprisal was commissioned on 26 November 1776 under Commander Nathaniel Carver of Boston, Massachusetts. She was listed as being armed with eight guns and as having a crew of sixty men. Reprisal was said to measure 70 tons. Her petition was presented by John Browne, Samuel Allyne Otis and others of Boston.1 Joshua Bartlett served aboard as First Lieutenant2 and one Holmes as Second Lieutenant.3
Reprisal was purchased by the Massachusetts Board of War from Martin Brimmer on 1 February 1777.4 [See Massachusetts Navy Sloop Reprisal]
