Maryland Privateer Sloop Mars was commissioned on 10 December 1777 under Commander Norris Copper1 [or Cooper] of Annapolis, Maryland. James Round of Baltimore, Maryland served aboard as First Mate.2 Mars was listed as having a battery of eight guns and as having a crew of twenty-five men. Her owners are given as James Calhoun and others of Baltimore, Maryland.3 She was formerly commissioned as Pennsylvania Privateer Schooner Mars [qv].
