New Hampshire Privateer Sloop Fox was commissioned on 19 May 1781 under Commander Thomas Manning of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Fox was listed as having a battery of four guns and a crew of thirty men. Her $20000 bond was signed by Manning and by Woodbury Langdon and John Langdon, both of Portsmouth.1


About 21 May Fox was said to have captured the 50-ton brigantine Adventure (Neil Campbell). She was libeled on 7 June 1781, with her trial to be held on 10 July 1781.2 She was advertised for sale on 18 June, with the sale to be held on 28 June, and was said to be 130 tons in the advertisement.3


The 75-ton brigantine Edinburgh [or Edinburg] (Alexander McCoskrie) was libeled on 18 June, with her trial set for 9 July 1781. She was advertised for sale on 25 June, with the sale to be held on 5 July. She was stated to be 100 tons in the advertisement.4


Fox sent in another prize. On 14 July 1781 the 100-ton brigantine Corbonear (James Bishop) was libeled, with her trial set for 6 August 1781. On the same day she was libeled the Corbonear was advertised for salem with the sale to be held on 26 July. She was stated to be 160 tons in the advertisement.5


Fox was re-commissioned on 25 September 1781 under Commander Robert Fisher of Boston, Massachusetts. Her battery and crew were unchanged. Her new $20000 bond was signed by Fisher and by one Briard of Portsmouth and John Langdon.6
