New Hampshire Privateer Schooner Foudroyant was commissioned on 10 August 1782 under Commander John Matthews of Newcastle, New Hampshire. She was reported as being armed with four guns and as having a crew of fifteen men. Her $20000 bond was signed by Matthews and by Supply Clap and Nathan Nichols, both of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.1
