New Hampshire Privateer Brigantine Fair American was commissioned on 31 July 1781 under Commander John Frost of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was listed as having a battery of eight guns and a crew of thirty men. Fair American’s $20000 bond was signed by Frost and by John Walmsley and George Libbey, both of Portsmouth.1
On 2 May 1782 the Fair American was captured by HM Frigates Amphion (Captain John Bazely) and Amphitrite (Captain Thomas Gaborian); HM Sloop Hornet (Commander Francis Tinsley); and British Privateer Digby.2 She was sent into New York, New York, and tried and condemned.3
