Comments:
Massachusetts Privateer Brig Black Eagle was at sea in the early part of 1777 under Commander John Brown, possibly of Marblehead, Massachusetts. She was listed as being armed with sixteen guns. She was captured off Antigua, British West Indies, before 22 February 1777. A report of that date published in the London Chronicle on 22 April 1777, notes that she was one of four captured privateers there. The others were the snow Royal African of fourteen guns (Commander Miles Baker), the Neptune of fourteen guns (Commander Charles Thompson), and the schooner King Herod of ten guns (Commander William Baker). She had been out from port a long time and had taken a number of prizes. Some were released and some sent into Boston.1
