Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Black Bird [Blackbird] was commissioned on 2 April 1779 under Commander James Morton of Bristol (Lincoln County), Massachusetts [Maine]. She was listed as being armed with eight swivel guns and as having a crew of twenty-two men. Her $5000 Continental bond and her £4000 Massachusetts bond were signed by Morton and by George I. (or J.) Yeates and Simon Eliot, of Bristol. Her owners were said to be all residents of Lincoln County.1
