Pennsylvania Privateer Schooner Betsey was commissioned on 16 September 1779 under Commander Robert Harris of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was listed as being armed with eight guns and having a crew of twenty-four men. Her $5000 bond was executed by Harris and John Taylor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Betsey was recommissioned on 3 March 1780 under Commander Alexander Thompson Ogilvie of Philadelphia. Her battery was reduced to four guns and her crew to fourteen men. Her $10000 bond was signed by Taylor and John McKim of Philadelphia.1 Betsey's third commission was on 11 July 1780 under Commander John Harr of Philadelphia. Her battery remained the same but her crew was listed as eleven men. The $20000 bond was signed by Harr, Sidman, and John Audebert of Philadelphia.2
