Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Betsey was commissioned on 1 January 1779 under Commander Nathaniel Bently of Newburyport, Massachusetts. She was listed as being armed with six guns, and having a crew of twenty men. Her $10000 Continental bond and £4000 Massachusetts bond were signed by Bently and by Joseph Laughton of Boston, Massachusetts and John Tracy of Newburyport. John Tracy and others were listed as her owners.1
