Maryland Privateer Schooner Betsey was commissioned on 9 July 1781 under Commander John Brice of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Serving aboard as First Mate was John Vessels, possibly of Baltimore, Maryland. She was listed as having a battery of eight guns and a crew of twenty-five men. Her $20000 bond was signed by Brice and John Bullen of Annapolis, Maryland.1 Betsey was again commissioned under Brice on 19 January 1782. She was listed as measuring 100 tons, and her battery, crew and owners were unchanged.2
