Connecticut Privateer Sloop Betsey was commissioned on 17 October 1778 under Commander Elisha Brown of Hartford, Connecticut. She was listed as having a battery of nine guns and a crew of twenty men. Her $5000 bond was signed by Brown, and Samuel Kilbourn and Deodat Williams of Hartford.1 Betsey was captured on her first cruise and taken into Antigua, British West Indies.2
