Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Batchelor [also spelled Batchelder and Batcheldor] was commissioned on 26 February 1778 under Commander John Hays [Hayes] of Boston, Massachusetts. She was listed as having a battery of eight guns and six swivel guns and as being manned with a crew of forty men. Her $5000 Continental bond and £500 Massachusetts bond were signed by Hays and William Shattuck and John Shattuck of Boston. Her owners were listed as William Shattuck and others of Boston. A bond not to enlist soldiers of the Continental Army was also signed.1
