Maryland Privateer Schooner Baltimore was commissioned on 8 June 1778 under Commander John Fanning1 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.2 She was listed as having a battery of four swivel guns and a crew of six men. Her owners are listed as Samuel Hughes and others of Baltimore, Maryland.3 Her $5000 bond was executed by Fanning and Samuel Hughes of Baltimore, Maryland.4
At some time in 1778 Baltimore was captured by the British. There are High Court of Admiralty records of her trial and condemnation. She is described there as an American merchant ship.5
