The 50-ton Maryland Privateer Schooner Baltimore was commissioned on 26 July 1779 under Commander Robert Caulfield1 of Baltimore, Maryland.2 She was listed as having a battery of six guns3 and a crew of ten men.4 Her owners are given as William Smith and others of Baltimore.5 Her $5000 bond was executed by Caulfield and James Calhoun of Baltimore.6


About 15 July 1780 Baltimore was returning to Baltimore from Hispaniola, Spanish West Indies. Near Cape Henry, Virginia Baltimore was chased by the blockading British vessels and was driven ashore. Both Baltimore and her cargo were lost.7
