Comments:
Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Antelope was commissioned on 29 October 1781 under Commander Thomas Clouston of Newburyport, Massachusetts. She was listed as being armed with ten guns and having an eighteen man crew. Her $20000 bond was executed by Clouston, owner Tristram Dalton, and Robert C. Hooper, all of Newburyport.1
At least one prize was captured under Clouston. He libeled the 100-ton brig Winborne (Thomas Howard) in the Massachusetts Maritime Court of the Middle District on 17 January 1782, with trial set for 12 February 1782.2
Antelope was re-commissioned on 6 February 1782 under a new rig, as a ship, with Commander Edward Fettyplace of Newburyport as her skipper. Antelope listed a reduced battery of eight guns and a reduced crew of sixteen men. Her $20000 bond was executed by Fettyplace and Stephen Bruce and Nehemiah Somes, all of Newburyport.3
