The 300-ton1 Massachusetts Privateer Ship Adventure was commissioned under Hector McNeill of Boston, Massachusetts, with a bond of $20000 being given by McNeill and Stephen Hall and John Shattuck, both of Boston. She was listed as being armed with six guns and as having a crew of forty-four men.2 McNeill was the ex-Continental Navy Captain cashiered from the Navy. He had also previously commanded the Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Pallas.3
