Pennsylvania Privateer Sloop Active was commissioned on 30 April 1779, out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a $5000 bond. William Green of Philadelphia was her commander. Bonders were Robert Bridges and William Smith of Philadelphia. She was listed as having six guns and a crew of twelve,1 however another source indicates the battery was two guns and four swivel guns.2
