Comments:
The noted maritime guerilla Adam Hyler obtained a privateer boat named the Active in 1782. She was armed with two guns and four swivels, had a crew of twenty-five men and measured 14 or 15 tons. Hyler requested a commission for this boat on 26 June 1782. He was unable to see the governor of New Jersey himself, but sent his lieutenant, Bordewine, to obtain the commission. Hyler promised to give the bonds as soon as he could.1
